Pioneering Event for Women of the Central Coast
On Sunday, 4 May 2025, the Central Coast will host ‘My Menopause Matters’, a groundbreaking event dedicated to empowering and educating women on the realities of perimenopause and menopause. Held at Mingara Recreation Club from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM, this full-day event will bring together leading health professionals, expert advice, and open conversations to break the stigma and equip women with practical strategies to navigate their unique menopause journeys.
With 12 expert speakers, a nutritious lunch, interactive information stations, and goodie bags, this event is designed to inform, support, and connect women through this often-overlooked stage of life.
The seminar boasts an impressive lineup of 12 esteemed health professionals, including Dr Georgia Page, Heather Irvine-Rundle, Dr Heidi Zeeman, Dr Helen Manning, Dr Jodie Ralph, Karen Aroney, Dr Kelly Hankins, Dr Kelly Needham, Liz Barrett, Dr Peta Skilbeck, Kirrily Curran, and Dr Shauna Watts.
These experts will address a range of topics pertinent to menopause, such as understanding its phases, optimising healthcare consultations, and recognising when to seek additional support. Women will leave armed with practical strategies to take charge of their health and wellbeing.
A special highlight of the event is the screening of the internationally acclaimed ‘M Factor Movie’, offering an in-depth look at menopause’s multifaceted impact on women’s lives.
Jodie Ralph, General Practitioner and one of the founding members of My Menopause Matters, explains: "We formed this collective for one reason - too many women are suffering in silence, unsure where to turn for help. Menopause impacts every aspect of life, yet it’s still misunderstood, dismissed, or simply not talked about enough. My Menopause Matters is here to change that.”
The event is proudly supported by several key organisations committed to women's health and well-being.
The Debbie Gaunt Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation, is dedicated to breaking the stigma around menopause and gender-specific mental health conditions. Founded in memory of Debbie Gaunt, who tragically lost her life to suicide in 2019 during perimenopause, the foundation raises awareness and provides vital resources for women’s mental health.
"Our involvement in 'My Menopause Matters' reflects our dedication to educating the community about the mental health challenges associated with menopause," said Craig Gaunt, founder of the Debbie Gaunt Foundation. "By supporting this event, we honour Debbie's legacy and ensure that no woman feels alone during this transition."
Heather Irvine-Rundle, Senior Psychologist at The READ Clinic and founding member of My Menopause Matters added, "Menopause isn’t just a physical transition, it significantly impacts mental health, relationships, and overall wellbeing. Yet, so many women feel isolated, dismissed, or even ashamed of what they’re experiencing. At the READ Clinic, we’ve seen firsthand how access to the right information and support can be life-changing. My Menopause Matters is about breaking the silence, validating women’s experiences, and equipping them with the knowledge to navigate this stage with confidence.”
Dr Kelly Needham, Managing Director of Coastal Goddess and founding member of My Menopause Matters commented, "Menopause is a journey that no woman should have to navigate alone. At Coastal Goddess, we believe in the power of community, connection, and holistic care. My Menopause Matters is about bringing women together, sharing knowledge, and empowering them to embrace this chapter of life. When we support each other, we thrive together.”
Menopause affects every part of the body, including vision and eye health, yet few women are aware of this crucial connection.
Liz Barrett, Managing Director of Dry Eye Solution explains, "So many women live with dry, gritty, red, or watery eyes — not realising that menopause may be the underlying cause. Hormonal changes can lead to blurred vision, light sensitivity, eye fatigue, and a constant feeling like there’s something in the eye. But this link is rarely discussed. This event is about changing that. We’re proud to be part of a movement that’s raising awareness, offering support, and helping women find real, lasting relief."
